Music is a universal constant; there’s a reason that, when NASA sent out the Voyager probe to see what’s out there in this huge, possibly empty galaxy, music was one of things that they included on the big data record that they were hoping any aliens would find.

Music binds us together. There are songs about political issues, social issues, emotional issues, heck, even comedic issues! Of course, musicians also have a lot to say about the other thing that binds humanity together: love. Love songs have dominated the airwaves since Caveman Grog bonked Cavewoman Mog on the head, dragged her back to his cave, and then sang about his love for her over the campfire to all of his other caveman buddies.

Anyone who knows me well knows my love of music. I may not be able to make my own, but I am constantly on the look out for new songs and artists to listen to. And I’m not picky; I love all genres of music from almost any time period. To me, it’s all about finding good music that speaks to you in some way, and at times this means you have to dig, search and discover musicians in places that you wouldn’t necessarily look or even think to look for them. Here is a top five of my newest favorite artists and a few of the different ways I discovered them…

You have seen “Legally Blonde”, haven’t you? Reese Witherspoon, trying to prove that she is better than everyone, fighting the cliches and winning. The movie is certainly one of my feel-good-factors whenever things seem to be impossible to accomplish.
Why am I talking about the movie? Because today it is Monday which means another one of Monday Music Inspiration. And the song that is my inspiration is “Watch Me Shine” from the official soundtrack to the movie.

I wish I could sing
A song of starlight illuminating my path.

A story of a gentle breeze showing me the way.
I wish I could paint
A picture of melody playing on my mind.
I wish I could live a peaceful and a quiet life.

But I have no voice to create a sound of music.
And I have no gift to express my feelings with words.
And it is a difficult task to paint in bright colors
Even though I tried for so many times.

Today’s song is “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith. I first heard the song when I watched the movie “Armageddon” more than 10 years ago. And the movie is still one of my favorites. So is the song.

As you already figured the song was on the soundtrack for the movie. The song topped many charts in different countries and was the most successful single for the band in their career.

Music is one of the best ways to enjoy the present. It’s not much fun to look forward to hearing music or to remember what a song sounded like last week, but music right now absorbs you and places you in the present moment. ~Sonnett Branche

Whatever you can not say music can express really well. It can speak volumes. It can depict emotions, show life, make us smile, cry, wonder, sympathize, believe, dream. It is a part of life we do not want to let go of because maybe in some way or the other it is the only part we can sometimes relate to so much.
