As you know I am still on vacations and there are still guest posts published on The Colors Magazine. You sure know as well that there is a contest for all bloggers to take part in. It is free and you can find details here - http://www.thecolorsmagazine.com/2010/07/may-contest-results/.
However while on vacation I managed to write a short story for Jason Evans’ contest. You can check out my short story here - http://clarityofnight.blogspot.com/2010/07/forties-club-finalist-13.html and you still have time to take part in that contest yourself.

This is a guest post by Aniket Thakkar

Tabitha creased her sweater once again and wiped her tears.
She didn’t want him to know she’d been crying. He’d hate that.

Her eyes searched for that familiar face in the crowd that descended from the escalator.
Must be any minute now. She clenched on the barriers that prevented her to rush through the customs and find Carl herself.
Its been over an year that she last saw him. Over a year of her praying each day for his safe return. Over a year of him fighting for his country.
Over a year, of war.

She saw the handsome face smile back at her. And she waved back like a three year old, jumping at the sight of a candy.
She didn’t care anymore for holding back those tears. She let them flow.

He gave her a crushing hug as she caressed her fingers over the bruises on his face and then lingered over his uniform. Feeling his heartbeat.
Confirming its rhythm. He smelt of earth. She was lost in memories, of how she had met Mark at an army ball.
How in one dance with him, she knew she was going to marry him. And she did. Her life was full, rich and perfect.

All perfect. Till Mark was called in for duty, only to return with his body wrapped in Stars and Stripes.
She was afraid. Afraid of losing his son to the same fate. But ever since he was a kid, she knew he had his fathers will.

“Come on. Mom you’re wetting my uniform. I washed it myself you know?”

She punched him on the chest and dug her face in it.

He covered her shoulders in his arm and grinned, “Now, if only the enemy side threw punches like that, we wouldn’t have lasted a day.”

Oh wow. Short, sweet, but so heartfelt. Though I’ve never really been keen on watching too many war drama, something about them draws me to reading such stories (esp. short stories, that have profound effects nonetheless).

I truly loved this one. This should be dedicated to all those “true” soldiers, martyrs and heroes out there.

Oh I can spot a hundred mistakes in it now like ‘that prevented her to rush’ should be that prevented her from rushing, etc. Wrote this while was at work, may be thats why. Well, as long as its essence gets through, I’m happy. ;) Aniket´s last blog ..Plum Blossoms In Paris – Results My ComLuv Profile
