The Universal Soul: Blog Review

9 May 2010 One Comment

Kimberly with the post A letter from another place was the winner of March edition of The Colors Magazine contest series Show Your Best where bloggers present their best posts from the previous month. It is a great chance to show your writing to a wide range of people, share your opinions and perspectives and get new readers. As per contest’s rules today we are going to make a review of Kimberly’s blog The Universal Soul.

About the author

As Kimberly admits herself, she feels a bit uncomfortable talking about herself.  But then we have to introduce the author, right? She is a high school English and journalism teacher, a writer and she has a fantastic blog, full of wisdom, positive thoughts and really quality writing. You can’t help enjoying each of her posts.

However if you want to know more about Kimberly, check out her About me page.

Why a blog?

This time I am not only making a review of the blog but also a short interview with its autor. I have asked Kimberly a couple of questions and here is what has come out of it.

- Why have you started the blog?

-  I started The Universal Soul as a place to share a positive message with people and as a place to practice my creative writing. I am writing my first novel (90 pages in), and I’d like to share that one day too.

- What are your favorite posts?

My favorite posts are the ones that touch the people the most. The more comments and reactions I receive, the happier I am because I think, “Wow, my words and experiences really are helping people or touching their lives.” That’s what matters.

- Why you have chosen The Universal Soul as the name?

- The “Universal Soul” comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s famous work Self Reliance. This collection of essays is VERY important to me, and I have tried to live out its message. The “Universal Soul” is the oversoul that unites all living things. We are all connected, and that is a beautiful thing.

About blog design

This blog has a simple two-column layout, very user friendly and comfortable to be at. Nice colors and background image make you enjoy your reading without any distractions and annoyances.

About the blog

The Universal Soul’s first post dates September 2009. When I checked the date I could not really believe, it is that young! As Kimberly says:

This blog is dedicated to the spiritual journey we are all on and the overall health and wellness of the body, mind, and soul… with a little poetry thrown in for good measure.

The blog offers you a variety of posts. When I say variety, I indeed mean this. I have tried to pick up my favorites but it is almost impossible. Take a random post from archives and you would love it. Check the latest one and you won’t stop reading. These are posts we all can relate to, think about and have our own opinions on. These are lessons of life and for life. The ones we often forget to follow even when we know that we should not.

So that you could have something to start with, I suggest a couple of posts that you should definitely NOT miss:

The Healing Power of Touch

The Power of Good Attitude

Carry Your Cross

The blog has a number of sections which give the readers a great chance to be a part of something big.

POETography - POETography is something Kimberly is doing once a month. She posts a picture and the readers should say in words, stories, poems, phrases what they think about it. Sounds fun to me, why don’t you try? An example you can find here.

Your Own Words - Everyone from The Universal Soul community can contribute to the blog, can send a message. If you have something inspirational, uplifting to say, contact Kimberly and you might be the next one whose message will be featured on The Universal Soul.

Act of Kindness - Every month Kimberly features a random act of kindness that was experienced or carried out by herself or her readers. Isn’t it a truly beautiful and inspirational initiative? If you have something to say, contact Kimberly and discuss the matters with her.

As you can see The Universal Soul is a blog worth visiting regularly. So what are you waiting for?

You can receive the review of your blog here on The Colors Magazine too. It is very simple. Just join our April contest, share with us your best April post. Details about this contest you can find at http://www.thecolorsmagazine.com/2010/05/show-your-best-april-contest/

As some of you sure know we are turning 1 year next week. And considering that 2 of my jobs take most of my  time  including weekends (unfortunately there are only 24 hours in a day), I find it really an achievement that this site has lasted for that long already. What keeps me going is that it is well visited and read and that the number of subscribers is growing steadily (why don’t we make it 500 soon?!). Your appreciation and feedback is really important for me as it is the only thing that makes this site still alive. If you have some ideas of how to make it a better place or if you have something you enjoy here the most or if you just have some kind words for The Colors Magazine now you can add your words to our TESTIMONIALS Page.

Also as you remember we had a writing contest not long ago and while not all winners got back to me regarding their prizes (if you read it now, I am still waiting for your mails), some already have. So why don’t you check out the blog of one of our winners -  ShinLoo here
