Yes: A Short Story

7 January 2010 26 Comments

man woman Yes: A Short StoryHave you thought about it? she sat up.

About what?

She touched his face with her finger tips. The next moment he felt the velvet touch of her lips pass over his brow.

About what? he repeated.

Her fingers were sliding over his face. Little by little slowing down.

Don’t, he said.

What?

Don’t stop.

An inscrutable smile stirred her lips.

So have you thought about it? she repeated the question touching his upper lip with her index finger. He swallowed, not able to take his eyes off her lips, trying to guess what would come next.

So? she asked.

What?

Quizzical look. Tantalizing silence.

His heart missed a beat. She smiled again clearly enjoying his helplessness.

Yes, he exhaled hardly audible.

Yes?

Yes.

What yes?

Yes, we will buy that damn dog, sweetheart.

I like this story a lot. Using the small exchanges spced out really builds the suspense. Nice ending too, I like how you turned us away from the expected.
