3 Facts: Glasgow

Last time it was Barcelona, today we will go to Glasgow,  the largest city in Scotland and third most populous in the United Kingdom.I don’t know about you but I was always fascinated with Scotland. I remember reading lots of crappy love stories set in Scotland. And while I was annoyed by the stories themselves I fell in love with the country.

So when it came to choosing another city for One City - 3 Facts I thought why not Glasgow? And here we are!

3 Facts about Glasgow

1. Glasgow Museum of Transport

The Museum of Transport in Glasgow is one of the most popular museums of transport in the UK. It attracts f a million visitors a year. Why is it so popular? For many reasons. I will list 2.

  • The largest collection of Clyde ship models in the world is housed in there

  • The original underground system was cable operated and is the oldest underground system in the world. Carriages from the original underground can be found it hat Museum too.

2. Paisley Museum

Scotland’s first municipal museum, designed by John Honeyman, was opened in 1871. This museum and art gallery houses the world largest collection of Paisley Pattern shawls.

3. The Mitchell Library

Glasgow City Council’s Mitchell Library is Europe’s largest public reference library with more than a million volumes.  The Mitchell Library also holds the Glasgow City Archives and collections which are considered to be one of the world’s best resources for researching family history. It also houses the world’s largest Robert Burns Collection.
