And in the End, the Love You Take is Equal to the Love you Make

31 August 2009 53 Comments

“How do I know if this is a true love?” Someone asked me recently.

I was confused. Not that I didn’t know what to answer. In fact I answered instantly. I seem to have had the answer for this question since ages. Maybe I knew it all the time. And now was only waiting for someone to ask me.

“If it’s love it’s true,” I answered.

“How do you know it is love then?” I was asked. I really saw it coming. Nobody would just accept the answer I have given.

It got me thinking. I know what love is, I really do. I just don’t know how to express that with words. They don’t seem to be enough. They seem to be shallow and too small to define it. After having written about love for almost 2 years since Tuesday Love Ramblings on my blog were launched I still cannot find the right words to show what love is. Maybe I am not supposed to?  I mean, I am definitely not Shakespeare, and he was good, wasn’t he? Romeo and Juliet still makes me cry every time I read it or watch the play or the movie. But even having all the works of Shakespeare available, people still ask what love is. Though, maybe they haven’t read Shakespeare? Maybe next time someone asks me what love is I will send them to the library instead?

I can go on speaking about love…

true love And in the End, the Love You Take is Equal to the Love you Make

I can tell you that love is finding peace, solace and comfort in someone’s arms.
I can tell you that love is a great feeling of belonging to someone’s world.
That it is an eternal spring in your soul.
That it is a permanent smile in your heart.

I can tell you that love is life.

Life with someone and for someone. When nothing else matters and yet everything does.

It is being happy. Not for yourself. But being happy for the other person.

For someone that special that when they look at you they touch your soul.
When they smile at you they speak to your heart.
When they kiss you, the world stands still.

Love is when you prefer to be together through hard times rather than having it easy separately.

It is fighting for what you think is right for the both of you. It is holding on and hanging in each time things go wrong. It is supporting each other in the smallest of actions. It is standing by when the whole world turns its back to you. It is being there even if they didn’t ask you. It is knowing that they would do the same.

Love is power. Power of feelings, emotions, faith, beliefs, understanding.

It is giving someone the power to destroy you but trusting them not to. And they will not. And no matter what happens between you, no matter how badly you fight or what mistakes you make, you will love that one person without regret for the rest of your life.

Love is missing someone so badly that it aches. It aches every day, every hour, every minute, and only when you are with them does the pain go away.

Love is finding someone so completely perfect for you. Someone who makes you happier than you ever dreamed to be. Someone who  touches your life so profoundly and gives you a whole new reason to breathe.

The reason to wake up in the mornings. The reason to live.

And this person will make you happy when you are sad, will understand your imperfections and see through them perfectly, will wait patiently just to hear your voice before they go to bed every night…This person will believe in you and your purpose,  and they will be there with you no matter what, no matter when, no matter why… they will be there for you… always and forever.

i love you And in the End, the Love You Take is Equal to the Love you Make

Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?

But love isn’t always perfect. It is not a fairytale. It is not a storybook. Not a movie for that matter. And more often than not “happily ever after” is just a myth. But a damn beautiful one.

Love doesn’t always come easy. It is overcoming obstacles, facing challenges, fighting to be together, holding on and not letting go. Even if at times it is really hard. Love is work, love is responsibility. Love is care. The care you give and the care you get. It is sharing. Feelings. Emotions. Thoughts. The Past and the Future. The Present.

Love is also understanding. Understanding that fairytales don’t  just happen. You work for your own fairytale. And you work hard. Every day. Every single hour. Each moment of your life. You adjust, you care, you compromise, you create your own fairytale. You do it together.

Love does not just happen. You find love, and you work hard to make it a beautiful bond of two loving hearts. And if you both work for it, you might be able to create your own fairytale. For a lifetime.

“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make…”

My friend and I were discussing the very same thing today over lunch.

We both agreed that when it starts we love each and every tiny thing about each other. We’d even think picking nose is cute if THE ONE does that. But over time we tend to look at it more rationally and thats when all that you mentioned come into picture. That one needs to understand, compromise, adjust to each others needs and work on it.

I’ve had a real bad experience so I don’t know how to do it right. Not even sure if there is any perfect algorithm for it. I guess we just have to go with the flow. :)

    The Colors Magazine Reply:

I believe we never know how to do it right.. It happens and we learn by making mistakes, important is only that both are ready to deal with these mistakes and find compromises and accept the faults of each other. That’s a tough thing actually.

How I loved reading your post on love!
    Thank you…it’s just beautiful!

I have been so blessed with love in my life that I just treasure every little speck of love and never take it for granted!

I think love first of all starts with loving ourselves…when we love ourselves the way we want to be loved then we can love others in the same way.

My life is wonderful because of all the love I have!
My husband is my best friend & I love him dearly!
That is such a gift & I do not take it for granted!

Thank you for this lovely post!

    Hi LENA!

Well I read this your very beautiful compressed thoughts over the issue we often wonder and ponder on…Love!..TRUE Love..!!

When I was going through this post/story…I was a bit feeling unfortable with the lavshing poetic versions you were mentioning…I felt as that such poetic live I have heard/read a lotz but will someone ever shake me let me know the far more truth behind the whole Lovly story…And there at the end I found You writing..

    Love is also understanding. Understanding that fairytales don’t just happen. You work for your own fairytale. And you work hard. Every day. Every single hour. Each moment of your life. You adjust, you care, you compromise, you create your own fairytale. You do it together…..” ;

And instantly, I was relieved and felt I was being loved and also loved someone…

Indeed…well said and touched my heart chord with the line…. “Love is also understanding. Understanding that fairytales don’t just happen. You work for your own fairytale. And you work hard”

O! Yes…My love life is not a fairytale but I have always beleived as a wonderland I stay in where a FREEDOM is given to me…Well Not just an ordinary word FREEDOM for sake to say but infact A FREEDOM to make MISTAKES and still be by my side to hold me and love me in crises/risks i take in Life!!

    Celebrate Life..

    Hi Rachana!
I must admit I do tend to poetic desciptions when it is about love, because love does have this poetic feeling in it.
But I also do realize that love is not just a fairytale by default. You need to work to make it grow. You make mistakes and you correct them, you fight, you lose, you compromise, but at the end of the day it all seems irrelevant because you know you love and you are loved. That’s what matters :)

i read this not once, but twice and i will read it some more times…

i went back to your site, not once, but many times just to read this wonderful post of you…

it really is, you did it quite easily to express the true, simple and real essence of love, of being loved, of being in love, of how it feels, of how it breaks one’s heart…

of how two beautiful souls, two beautiful minds, two beautiful people should work together to make that love they have for each other work out for them, till eternity…

not once, not twice, but many times, we fall in love but you would realize that every time you fall hard, it seems it is the best, he is the real one, but he isn’t… coz as long as we are breathing, for as long as we meet wonderful people, we can’t help but fall in love again…

honestly, i did fall in love so many times, maybe because i am a poor, hopeless romantic who wants to relive her illusions, but you know, this poor heart of mine never learned any good lesson on relationships…

but this keeps us alive, of knowing that someone out there really loves us and would let us believe that it’s always for real…

whew… Lena, love is a many splendoroured thing…:)

and it’s a very beautiful and interesting subject to write about, isn’t it?

you…made my day…my dear…i really love this post of yours!:)

    The Colors Magazine Reply:

I don’t know… somehow I feel true love can happen once only and if you are lucky enough to find that special one.. maybe I am hopeless romantic too, who knows..
But you are right, the longing for such love keeps us alive.. helps us to get through and survive :)

I am glad you enjoyed this post.. may you be happy in love always :)

I dunno much about love, but I guess you know it’s true when you want to spend the rest of your life with that person…and actually spending your lives together.

I’ve seen it in my parents. They’ve been together more than 50 years (that’s half a CENTURY!), but they still seem very much in love.
