5 ways to feel better
Every now and then we all feel blue. The reasons might be different. Valid or even not sensible, but it does not really matter because before you figure out how to improve your own mood you will not be able to fix whatever problem it was that caused it. Now here at The Colors Magazine we suggest you 5 ways to feel better.
- Get a pet
Now, don’t say a big no before you read till the end. Yes, there are sure disadvantages of having a pet at home. They need care, they need food and they need you to go for a walk with them. Several times a day. Soon enough they decide they are your master and you are their slave. More over they are expensive and create a lot of mess. But we still tell you, get a pet. A cat, a dog, a pony after all if you can afford this. Different surveys have proved that communication with pets reduces the level of cortisol, stress hormone and encourages producing of chemical serotonin, happiness hormone. So if you want to feel better, 10-15 minutes of playing with your pet would do the trick. But if you still are not convinced and don’t want to get a pet, you can “borrow” your friend’s or neighbor’s animal.
- Smile
A smile can brighten the darkest day. You know it, we know it, but we all forget about it when we feel low. How can someone smile when he/she is buried under the weight of their own problems. Force yourself. Scientists proved that smile activates spots in our brain responsible for happiness.
Someone once said “You haven’t lost your smile at all, it’s right under your nose. You just forgot it was there”. It’s now time to remember.
We are what we eat. And our mood is what we are. Logically our mood is what we eat. No wonder chocolate makes us happy. Everyone knows the “I feel good” feeling produced by chocolate. Chocolate does not contain serotonin, the happiness hormone, but it has tryptophan, a serotonin precursor, that the brain can transform into serotonin.
One more “feel good” source is Brazil nut. It is rich on selenium, the lack of which could cause depression. And if in addition to it you will drink neat orange juice which contains folates, you will not have to worry about serotonin level in your body.
- Touch someone
Human touch does magic. That is why since long we are used to give hugs to the person who is not feeling well. Some scientists insist that human touch can increase the endorphine level, lower blood pressure, heart rate and make you relax.
But who cares about what scientists say. A hug is a hug, isn’t it?
- Take pencils
The best way to get rid of your bad mood is to paint it, to draw it, to let it get out of your head and heart. The more you work on your “picture” the more chances are there to feel better.
This is of course not a complete list of things which could make you feel better. But we believe that at least one of them will work for you. If not, get back to us and we feel find new ways.

@ Ankur:
ar least you smiled, so it is worth it!!
@ Arv:
Yup, they always do have this healing effect.
glad you liked it
@ AmalBose:
you know, it is the question of perception and the mindset, once you change the way you think about some things, for example about the food, it will be different. it is not about liking the food, it is more about some types of food containing elements which might make your body produce the “happiness” hormone
@ Jeeves:
i am glad you did
@ Akanksha:
i should have thought about writing, helps a big deal
thanks for reminding. And its great to see you here

I can follow almost all, but no pets yet. But you know Matthew loves dogs, when he sees one, and the bigger the dog the greater laughter from him. May be one day, lol….btw your photo makes me already happy. Anna

Congrats on ur new magazine and way to go.
Hugs make someone happy and do hug only when the other person feels ok. Not many like to get too close.

@ Yamini:
yup, touch can work wonders
Would love to see you more often here
@ Sourish:
you scared of pets?
@ Devil:
yup, sometimes we dont let feelings out and just do our routine… maybe thats the reason why many forget what it means to be happy.
@ Doug:
like the rest of the tips too
it sure does
@ Anil:
you could have tried google or wikipedia
@ Anna:
then am sure you could try to get a dog after a while when Matthew grows older
and he is not scared at all? thats amazing
@ Priya:
yup, right, not many like to get close, but we do get these things from the closest friends, not just from anyone, right?

When I really feel down, I would call my best pal or my sis and talk with them for hours…

You’ve got very helpful tips, but i am no pet lover. i hate the furs, it gives me allergens.
but to be touched by someone who loves you and whom you love gives a wonderful feeling of being relieved from any pain or heartaches. the feelings can’t be explained. It’s heaven, you know.
if don’t feel good, i have no appetite, so eating the right way is a no-no.
wonderful post!
